Kitten sneeze: Causes of a kitten sneezing

If your kitten just sneezes once or twice, there is nothing to worry about. If your kitten seems to be sneezing constantly, this could be a cause to worry. There are several different reasons your kitten could be sneezing. Lets look at a few of them.

Were you aware that kittens can be allergic to things too? Your little bundle of fur can be allergic to many different things in your home, and one of the ways she reacts is by sneezing. Here are just a few things that your kitten may be allergic to dust, aerosols, cigarette smoke, pollen, dust in kitty litter, candle smoke, carpet cleaners, mold, dust and many other possible things. Just like a human being with allergies often sneezes, and has a runny nose as a reaction - so too can your kitten.

Upper Respiratory Infection. Basically this is the common cat flu. It is highly contagious, just like a human flu and affects your kitten in a similar way. Your kitten will be affected in the mouth, nose and sinus areas cause by bacteria, viruses and fungi. Some other things you may spot your kitten displaying are fever, wet nose, watery eyes and coughing.

Causes of kitten sneezingIt doesn't happen often, but sometimes a kitten gets a foreign object lodged in their respiratory tract causing them to sneeze to try and dislodge it. By using a flashlight and tweezers you may be able to remove the offending object yourself. If you are not sure about it, take your kitten to your veterinarian.

Occasionally tooth decay can be the culprit behind a sneezing kitten. This doesn't happen too often with young kitten however. Signs are bad breath, puss in the mouth area and swollen gums. Teeth decay needs to be treated by your veterinarian, who will be able to advise you about the best course of action.

When a kitten is continuously sneezing and she has been sneezing for more than a few days, she needs to see a veterinarian.  The best treatment is often getting your kitten cared for as soon as you suspect there might be an issue.  If you have checked through the items listed above and you are still uncertain then having your kitten checked by a professional is always the best course of action.
