Your Maine Coon cat and you

Having a pet gives you lots of opportunities to talk with other pet owners on the subject of training, but when you own a Maine Coon Cat, everything is turned on its head. The talk is not about training your pet but actually it's about training you.

First, your Maine Coon will set a sleeping schedule for you. He does this by paying attention to your habits. He notes the time that you usually go to bed, and the time that you usually wake up. In the future, if you do not go to bed or wake up at your usual time, he will not tolerate it. He will nag you about going to bed ? and he will torture you until you get up. You will learn to stick to the bedtime schedule, or pay the consequences.

The easiest thing for you to do as regards your pets dining habits is to stick to a set schedule each day. Try not to vary the eating times and you will find life a lot easier. They are indeed creatures of habit and they expect you to be also.

Your cat will never tire of making sure that you do exactly what you are supposed to do and this means that he will be checking up on all of your duties both in the house and indeed outside the house. Friends will be vetted and even you will be checked to make sure that you have washed and dressed properly.

Your Maine loves to go for a walk but it is vitally important that you learn how to use the leash and harness properly so that he can enjoy his walk in safety. He will of course expect to go on any walk with you on a regular basis.

There is a variety of other types of training that you will need. Much of this training will be determined after your Maine Coon has a chance to make up the rules. For example, you will be trained that toilet paper should never be left on easy to reach toilet paper holders. If you fail to learn this lesson, you will find beds of toilet paper on the floor beneath the empty roll. You may also find that kitty has toilet papered your house. You must learn the rules.

Space is something that is vital for your Maine Coon cat. Whether you're sitting down relaxing in front of the television or whether you're attending to some household chore your Maine Coon will want to be with you and so you must ensure that there is sufficient space for him or her to join you. You just need to remember that although you may think you own a Maine Coon, they actually own you!
