The American Rottweiler is a black dog with tan markings behind his
eyes, cheeks, chest and muzzle. It has a medium length coat that is
straight and coarse and has a double undercoat. These dogs are very
possessive with their owners and their possessions and will make
wonderful guard dogs. Their history goes back hundreds of years when
they marched with the Romans over the Alps pulling their carts.
The only difference between the American Rottweiler and the German
Rottweiler is the size of the dog. The German Rottweiler is shorter,
stockier and more muscular then the American Rottweiler. The American
Rottweiler is thinner in the face and body and taller than the German
Rottweiler. They are both black with tan markings on their cheeks,
chest, muzzle and eyes and both have medium double undercoats that have
straight and coarse hair.
The females are smaller than the males weighing between sixty to one
hundred pounds, while the males weigh between eighty-five and one
hundred thirty-five pounds. These dogs do not realize the strength in
their size and are sometimes referred to as a gentle bears.
The American Rottweiler is becoming known as an excellent therapy dog
and is becoming very well known with the physically challenged. He is a
very intelligent dog and a hard working dog. He aims to please and is
happiest when performing a task. However, these dogs can be stubborn
and need to be trained and socialized at a very early age.
They are now becoming known as excellent dogs for the physically
challenged. They are also awesome therapy dogs. It is no wonder that
they have been the second most popular dog in the United States for the
last two years. The American Rottweiler is a healthy dog but can have
problems with hip dysplasia and cancer has started to become more
pronounced in the breed. Any noticeable moles or lumps should be check
immediately.
Reputable American Rottweiler breeders should not be difficult to
locate. They can normally be found on the Internet, through
recommendations from other Rottweiler owners, through your veterinarian
and from the American Kennel Club. These breeders should be socializing
their puppies with their own families to get them customized to humans.
They should be able to answer all of your questions about the breed and
will normally turn the tables on you and ask you many questions to see
if you are ready to own an American Rottweiler. There are German
Rottweiler breeders and American Rottweiler breeders and if you have
done your homework sufficiently, you will know the distinct difference
between the two. Having a discussion with the breeder about the two
types of Rottweilers is a good idea.
These dogs make great pets and because of their size will become
excellent guard dogs. They are not aware of their size and when their
humor comes through it is quite silly.
