The cute attitude of the Pomeranian makes it a great asset within the
home and to further enhance the experience of having a Pomeranian at
home, it is essential to consider Pomeranian training and more
particularly potty training. Along with its small size and
courageousness, the Pomeranian is also an excellent watchdog. Even
though it learns things easily and can be trained, when it comes to
housebreaking it is not the quickest learner.
The first step in Pomeranian potty training is to keep it in a
playpen that also has clean newspaper down and where its food and water
are kept along with a comfortable bed where it can sleep. It is a good
idea to begin its potty training by taking it out when he wakes up in
the morning and show him the area where he should go.
Still, you also need to know how to handle accidents when they
occur, as this is a good time in Pomeranian training to exercise
patience and perseverance with the potty training. In any case, you
should not strike him or rub his nose in the mess as that will only
make him fearful and not properly potty trained.
Pomeranian training requires a good deal of effort on your part
and it involves teaching your pet more than just showing it where to go
out and poop. What’s more, when it does mess up within the home, you
need to clean up the mess so thoroughly that there is no smell of
remaining. You can, on the other hand, use products that smell just
like urine and put them where you want your Pomeranian to poop. The
smell of urine will immediately mark it as being the right place to
eliminate.
Then again, you should also remember that good Pomeranian training
methods do not include physical punishment of any kind, even if you
catch him in the act where he should not be messing up. Rather you must
make a loud clapping sound and even say the word no forcefully and
loudly and then take it outside where it can then go. The sound of the
clap and your voice should make it realize that it is doing something
wrong and thus get the idea about where to go when wanting to defecate.
There is not much to Pomeranian potty training if you address it
in the proper manner ensuring that your pet pick it up quickly.
However, remember that if you catch your pet having an accident and
more than a few seconds have passed since the act, there will be no
sense in punishing it because pups can only understand what has just
taken place.
And if you attempt to correct the problem well after it has
happened, it will only end up confusing and instilling fear in your
Pomeranian. Dogs tend to have short memories and may not be able to
link your reaction to any specific action, especially an accident.
Also, puppies cannot associate what they did a few seconds after
the event, and thus if you are late by more than three or four seconds
after he has pooped, there is no point in scolding him because it will
not make any sense to him what you are going on about. It is much
better to just clean up the mess completely and continuing with your
positive reinforcement training.
